The author of Urban and Amish spent some years in Lancaster, Pennsylvania as a child and brings those influences, along with today’s modern fabrics, into this beautiful book. Eight traditional quilt patterns are included, from a Pineapple pattern to Log Cabin, Trip Around the world and a simple Lone Star. Each quilt is then reworked into a new pattern inspired by the traditional design and worked in modern fabric. The patterns are clearly written and illustrated with excellent instructions. Best use-of-time instructions include strip piecing, making strip sets and sub-cutting from them, and the inclusion of notes where precut fabrics could be used. While none of the patterns are exceptionally hard, there is still some challenge in matching points and not cutting off points. Each pattern includes a paragraph on how the designer chose what quilting designs to use on each quilt. A great book for both beginners and more advanced quilters alike.
